The BEATLES
Their 11th studio outing, first unveiled as the 1960s slipped into the 70s, is a bonafide epic from an outfit that weren't lacking in epics; in many ways a culmination of their time together, marking the end of their active years and beginning of their legacy.

Lauryn Hill
'Lauryn Hill’s debut—and only—solo studio album was a seismic event in 1998: a stunningly raw, profound look into the spiritual landscape not just of one of the era’s biggest stars, but of the era itself. Decades later, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill still counts as a life-changer, with the preternaturally talented Hill rapping with the confident ferocity of a woman in total creative control and singing with the gospel-hued richness of the soul canon.

Bob Dylan
Leading with the hit single "Like a Rolling Stone," the album features songs that Dylan has continued to perform live over his long career, including "Ballad of a Thin Man" and "Highway 61 Revisited." He named the album after the major American highway which connected his birthplace, Duluth, Minnesota, to southern cities famed for their musical heritage, including St. Louis, Memphis, New Orleans, and the Delta blues area of Mississippi.

John Coltrane
Although never formally signed, an oral agreement between John Coltrane and Blue Note Records founder Alfred Lion was indeed honored on Blue Train -- Coltrane's only collection of sides as a principal artist for the venerable label. The disc is packed solid with sonic evidence of Coltrane's innate leadership abilities. He not only addresses the tunes at hand, but also simultaneously reinvents himself as a multifaceted interpreter of both hard bop as well as sensitive balladry -- touching upon all forms in between.

Curtis Mayfield
Curtis Mayfield's Curtis is a debut that arrived in September 1970, just as he stepped out from The Impressions and into a fully self-directed solo career. Released on his own Curtom label and produced by Mayfield himself, it pushed beyond his earlier pop-soul sound toward funk, psychedelic soul and sharper social commentary. The album's view of urban Black America is right there from the opening blast of "(Don't Worry) If There's a Hell Below, We're All Going to Go" to the searching uplift of "Move On Up."

MADONNA
Two years after Ray Of Light, Madonna returned in 2000 with the Maverick Records release Music, her first U.S. No. 1 album since 1989's Like A Prayer. The album paired her with French producer Mirwais and was an instant smash. It debuted at No. 1 around the world and was preceded by the title cut, which became her twelfth No. 1 in the U.S. and spent a month at the top of the Hot 100. Music was nominated for the 'Best Pop Vocal Album' Grammy and the "Music" single earned a nod for 'Record of the Year' and 'Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.' Music also secured Madonna the 2001 Brit Award for International Female, her first win. The album has sold over two million copies in the U.S. and another eight million internationally.

Arcade Fire
One of our favourites!! Arcade Fire broke out of Montreal for superstardom in 2004 with their hit album "Funeral." Led by the husband-and-wife duo of Win Butler and Régine Chassagne, Arcade Fire delves into llife's sadness.
